Passat Oil Sludge … a cautionary tale for anyone considering a Volkswagen

This post is for @rissxrizzles to explain why I will never by another Volkswagen. I’ve wanted to write about this for a while now.

Volkswagen’s tweet: ”We definitely support this decision! RT @rissxrizzles: I think i might get a jetta :)” finally prompted me to share my VW nightmare with Marisa and anyone else who cares to read. Maybe VW will take notice and FIX IT.

Bringing a concept to life

I am impressed by the way tat.se has brought a completely non-existent product to life in this short video. The idea of augmented IDs is interesting, inspiring, and frightening all at the same time.

Testing Posterous and Instaviz

This is my first time posting using Posterous. I'm not quite sure how this post will appear but I guess I'm going to find out soon. I guess everything up until I hit the send button has been pre-posterous. At least for me that is.

In addition to testing out Posterous, I am testing out a new iPhone App called Instaviz. Instaviz is a creation of Glen Low who won two Apple Design Awards in 2004 for his Mac OS X version of GraphViz ( http://www.graphviz.org/ ). Graphviz is a powerful graph layout engine developed at AT&T research and is free software licensed under the CPL ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphviz ). This graph took about 8 minutes to create on my iPhone. Instaviz can export PNG, PDF, and GV (dot notation), and VDX files. The GV files can be read by OmniGraffle, a superb application for Mac OS X. I believe the VDX files are Visio XML files, glad I don't have to use Visio much anymore.

Here goes my first posterous post! Update: I’ve since moved all of my Posterous entries to my personal WordPress installation hosted on my Joyent SmartMachine.

An Event Apart – SF 2008

This was my first Event Apart and I was not disappointed. The speakers were all on their game though I’ve seen Kelly’s and Jeff’s presentations before they’re keeping them fresh with a healthy serving of new material and are perfect for first time viewers. My brain is brimming with 16 hours of inspiration that I will try to distill down to a 30 minute share out with my friends at Intuit. I hope I can do them justice.

Here are my selects from the event. Not too bad for a $160 Lumix (no flash was used cuz I read the sign). More camera details available on each photo’s page on Flickr.

Jeffrey, thank you for the complement. It was an unexpected surprise. You have my permission to use them as you see fit.
